It is normal to be sad when heartbreaking events occur.  However, when feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or decreased interest and enjoyment of normal activities persist beyond reasonable expectations, this is called “clinical depression”.

The Bible offers hope for a person who is struggling with depression.  Sometimes, depression is associated with physical illness, but even if an illness is causing difficulties, there are almost always spiritual issues and behavior patterns that contribute greatly to the downward spiral into hopelessness.  These issues need to be overcome to enable depression to be replaced with joy and enthusiasm for life.  The Bible encourages us to pay close attention to God’s word (the Bible) “as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” ()  Here, at Redeemer Counseling Services, we have again and again seen this promise fulfilled in the lives of suffering people.

If you are struggling with depression, we would love to help you see how God can overcome hopelessness and despair in your life through His Word. Leave us a voicemail at (210) 201-4733 or email the counseling director at marshall@redeemercounselingservices.org. Our biblical counseling is always free.
